And lastly, a few details of the fish market itself....

I could not resist these capitals....  M

And now, since you all know I love food...here is a stroll through the fish market of Venice and adjoining fruit and veg....

Herb garden in a box at the market....

Now a stroll through the fish market....

Long distance travelers...lobsters with gigantic carbon footprint...

This school of fish is actually wired to appear to be leaping.....

Eels....and in the lower left a HUGE pile of crab claws...

And as the market closes up, the 'lunch crowd' arrives....

and with the Grand Canal in the background...huge quantities of lovely fruits..........  I sat on the taxi landing and enjoyed the view and the activities of the canal....

Ah, to have such magical friends....!!

Francesca and Vincent and I had tried to find mutual times that fit all of our calendars, without success.  Finally, we found a Thursday evening when we could meet at their house in Siena for a simple evening.

The day before I received an email from Vincent - what was I doing during the day Thursday?  Venice?  He wasn't kidding!!  He had a business appointment at 11, time for a simple lunch and return in time for our dinner.  Would I like to keep him company for the drive and the lunch....??

Needless to say, I shuffled and reorganized and left VM at 6, to arrive at their house by 7, departure time...  Vincent has a blue Alpha sports car so the drive was rapid and fun.  So, here are two posts from Venice.  The first, just magical glimpses.  The second, food, Venice-style.  Pour some cold white wine and stroll with me now.....first some icons...

Now just a mindless wander....

Interesting geometry....

This young man taking a break with the spot of sun almost making his white jacket almost glow.

This border for a doorway is simplicity itself.  Travertine 'bar' of a certain shape, cut into 2" and then just reversed and alternated....

How would you like to come home to this door knocker....

Doors and their knockers below....

A gent, waiting for his lady to conclude a purchase.  So patient...

From Rialto bridge..

My waiting spot for Vincent....  Grand Canal, outside the fish market, about 1:00.

Colonnade of the fish market....canal beyond to the right...

These chimney pots are to protect the flues from winds....

Venetians moving from meeting to meeting...

The colors of Venice......  M
